Established by the UN since 1992, this year's World Water Day marks the beginning of the International Decade of Action for Water and Sustainable Development for the period 2018-2028.
As stated by UN General Assembly Resolution 71/222, "The objectives of the Decade focus on the sustainable development and integrated management of water resources for the achievement of social, economic and environmental goals and on the implementation and promotion of related programs and projects, as well as on the strengthening of cooperation and partnership at all levels in order to help achieve internationally agreed water-related goals and targets, including those contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Decade also highlights the importance of promoting efficient water usage at all levels, taking into account the water, food, energy, environment nexus; and stresses the importance of the participation and full involvement of all relevant stakeholders, including women, children, young people, older persons, persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and local communities”.
The REN4WATER project is perfectly aligned with this vision: we want to contribute to the achievement of social, economic and environmental sustainability goals, through an innovative technical solution accessible to families (meaning close to women, children, and local communities in the developing countries), which allows them purify water directly at the point of use in their home, and using only renewable energy. The REN4WATER solution also wants to contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions and encourage the development of new economic models for rapid access to clean technologies, facilitating local distribution, micro-enterprise and sustainable growth.
